FAQ

Answers to the Questions You Have

  • What Are Retrofit Windows?

Retrofit or replacement windows are new windows that go over the existing window’s frame. The existing window frame is retained and the retrofit window is fitted into this frame. Thus, the glass area of the replacement window will be slightly smaller than the existing windows. However, this allows the new windows to be installed without the cost of cutting out the old windows, and repairing and painting the stucco.

  • Why Is There Moisture Or A Fogginess Beginning To Appear Between The Panes Of Glass On My Window?

The dual pane windows are insulated glass units that have a seal around the perimeter of the glass. When it loses its seal, moisture will appear between the two panes. Eventually this will turn into a fog and will leave a mineral deposit on the glass. Insulated units have a limited lifespan and need to be replaced occasionally. Sunlight, varying temperatures, and conditions of the frame can contribute to this failure.

  • If My Dual Pane Window Is Broken On One Side, Can I Just Replace That Pane Of Glass?

No. Unfortunately, insulated or dual pane units are sealed glass units that are made at the manufacturer.

  • What Is Low E Glass?

Low E glass was introduced in 1979 to provide better energy efficiency in homes. An ultra thin metallic coating is deposited on a glazing surface primarily to reduce the U-factor by suppressing radioactive heat flow. The E stands for emissivity – the measure of an object's ability to emit radiant heat energy. Low E glass reduces harmful UV rays that fade carpet and furniture up to 84%.

  • How Long Does It Take To Receive Replacement Windows And Doors?

We receive vinyl and aluminum windows in two to three weeks; wood clad and fiberglass in four to six. We typically install the windows within a week of receipt.

  • How Much Time Does It Take To Install Replacement Windows And Doors?

Under normal circumstances, windows take one hour each to install. Sliding patio doors, or French vinyl doors take four hours to install per set of doors.

  • How Do We Prepare For The Installation Of Our New Windows?

Please clear all furniture, accessories, and fixtures in front of the windows that are to be replaced. Please remove all window coverings such as blinds, drapes, and valances. If you have a burglar alarm, please contact your alarm company for any advice they may have.

  • Will You Dispose Of My Old Windows?

Yes, we will. However, if you wish to keep them you may.

  • Can We Replace Our Single Pane Windows With New Single Pane Windows?

No. They no longer manufacture single pane windows. However, we are able to replace the glass in single pane windows, just not the frame.

  • What Is Tempered Glass?

Tempered glass is manufactured through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling, making it harder than normal glass. Tempered glass is four to five times stronger than standard glass and does not break into sharp shards when it fails. The brittle nature of tempered glass causes it to shatter into small oval-shaped pebbles when broken. This eliminates the danger of sharp edges. Due to this property, along with its strength, tempered glass is often referred to as safety glass and is required in certain circumstances such as doors with glass, windows within two feet of doors, bathtubs, etc.
